SKY RANCH FOUNDATION℠ AWARDS GRANTS TO THE ORANGE DUFFEL BAG INITIATIVE AND FOSTER ADVENTURE

January 2019

In our 59th year, Sky Ranch Foundation℠ continues to support our nation’s at-risk youth. The Beverage Alcohol Industry’s contributions have helped the Foundation to resultantly award grants to organizations so focused, such as these two worthy organizations.

Atlanta, GA-based ‘The Orange Duffel Bag Initiative’ (theodbi.org) was co-founded by someone who himself was an at-risk youth, Sam Bracken. A mobster stepfather, a sadistic stepbrother, drinking and doing drugs by the age of 9, mother abandoning him, virtually homeless…Despite these obstacles, he received a 4 year football scholarship and, as he left for College, all he had fit into one orange duffel bag, hence the name of this wonderful organization.

With more than 6,100 youth in foster care between the ages of 11 and 18  in West Virginia, Foster Adventure (fosteradventure.org) aims to reach out to as many as possible. Ranch Foundation funds are directed to support their Opportunity Awaits Program which allows these youth to take hold or celebrate an opportunity presented to them such as extracurricular activities, school sports, clubs, class trips or “once in a life” experiences.

Foundation President Ralph Aguera states, “We salute these two organizations for their focus and earnestness in the rehabilitative work they do.”  Foundation Chairman George McCarthy furthers, “We are dedicated to continuing our efforts to award grants to organizations which help at-risk youth.”

To that end, organizations wishing to receive a grant have until January 31 to send in their Letter of Intent (LOI). Link here to view our Funding Guidelines:  http://skyranchfoundation.org/grants/funding-guidelines/

SKY RANCH FOUNDATION ℠ AWARDS GRANTS TO TWO CHICAGO BASED ORGANIZATIONS

December 2018

As Sky Ranch Foundation enters our 59th year we thank the Beverage Alcohol Industry for continuing to support our nation’s at-risk youth. Your contributions have helped the Foundation to resultantly award grants to organizations so focused, such as these two Chicago-based organizations.

Crusher’s Club (crushersclub.org) has operated in one of Chicago’s roughest gang-infested neighborhoods, Englewood since 2001. One remarkable woman, Sally Hazelgrove, Founder and Executive Director of Crushers Club noted, “I just have a dream, to be honest, of changing the life of every young man engaging in gang activity.” Sally approached gang members and asked them what would get them off the street. Boxing was the overwhelming response.

Founded in 2001, Urban Initiatives (urbaninitiatives.org) works with community schools using sports, primarily soccer, as an incentive to ‘work to play’. Their various programs serve distinct age groups always promoting cooperation and teamwork. One of their programs, Play with Potential, is noted as having reduced bullying after just 4 months, as noted by half of the teachers. See Video: https://vimeo.com/286958403/4e704fdd93

“Both of these organizations have done an outstanding job in helping rehabilitate Chicago’s troubled youth,” notes Foundation President Ralph Aguera. “We are dedicated to furthering our efforts in providing much needed funding,” added Foundation Chairman George McCarthy.

SKY RANCH FOUNDATION ℠ PROUDLY SUPPORTS PENINSULA OUTREACH PROGRAMS

June 2018

Sky Ranch Foundation℠, now in our 58th year, continues to support our nation’s at-risk youth on behalf of the Beverage Alcohol Industry.

Grants have been awarded to the Woodside, CA-based Peninsula Outreach Programs (POPSkids.org), now in its 25th year. POPSKids was founded in 1993 by President and CEO Ursula Miller to serve those in the community who were unable to receive aid from traditional sources. The Family Assistance Program and the Referral Service Program provided a valuable safety net for those “falling through the cracks”. However, it was their Conductive Education Program, added to POPS in 1995, that filled the greatest and most immediate need.
